People assume that when photographers say they want to catch the sunset, that they want to shoot the sun itself going down. While it is indeed a beautiful sight, it’s really not what landscape photographers are particularly after.
What we are really looking forward to shooting are the colors that ensue as the sun retires for the day. I actually don’t mind if the sun is hidden behind thick blankets of clouds as long as the colors are there. I want to see the sky lit in yellows, oranges, magentas all mixed with the regular blues of the heavens. It ain’t after all called the Golden Hour for nothing.
