One of the most important things I learned when using an ultra wide angle lens is to use a foreground to anchor an image in. Unfortunately, not all locations have suitable foregrounds.
Take the case of Pila Church in Laguna. The grounds in front of the old church were paved and as flat as the calm sea. For such instances, improvisation is the key. I quickly scanned the area and found an interesting pattern created by the shadows of the early morning sun versus the iron gates of the church. Anchor found.
