I wouldn’t have believed it if I haven’t tried it for myself, you can shoot the moon with a point and shoot camera.  And it’s not just a dot-shot photo of the moon, it’s quite zoomed in that you can see its cratered surface in detail.

The Canon S3is has a zoom ratio of 12x and with an additional 1.7x teleconverter lens, it neatly sums to 20x of zoom power. But it’s actually nothing compared to the current version of this camera which extends to a mind-boggling 32x. I can only imagine what the moon would look like using that camera.
